Standing in front of Elijah’s apartment, I do breathing exercises to pump myself up to go through the door. I don’t know if it’s because I know we are official and spending the night together, but I’m extremely nervous. Okay, I can do this, go in there and get your man!

Inserting the key, I turn it feeling a sense of freedom come over me as I open and walk into the door. I’m stopped immediately, shocked by the beautiful décor Elijah has set up for me. There are lit candles, rose petals, balloons and the aroma of home cooking. In awe I shut the door feeling completely thrown off by the thought he’s put into this.

I stand unable to move tears welling up, when I see Elijah come from his room. Walking up to me he engulfs me in a hug, and I feel warm and secure. He steps back looking at me as I take the time to look around.

“Wow this is so beautiful. When did you find the time to do this? I wasn’t gone that long.” He smiled then took my hand in his, kissing it.

“For you Sweetness, I’ll find the time to do anything to put a smile on your face.” Shaken by the sincerity in his voice I swallow trying to get my thoughts in order. I never thought I would feel like this again. “I hope you came with an empty stomach.” Of course, my stomach decides to make an announcement that it’s currently empty by growling. Horrified I clear my throat.

“Famished, apparently. What’s on the menu?” He turns away doing a terrible job of hiding his laughter. Beaming at his cute sense of trying to playthings off, I swat him on the arm. “You going to keep laughing or are you going to feed me some of what’s smelling so delicious in there?” Nodding he pulls me in for a kiss then leads me into the table that he so beautifully set up. He pulls out my seat and bows.

“For you madam.” With his hair tied back and his all black attire accentuating his muscles he didn’t look like he should be serving anything. No, he looks as if he should be the one being served… on a platter that is. Setting the plates down he takes a seat and I’m pleasantly surprised at the flavor.

“Oh, this is actually good.” He threw his head back laughing.

“Wow! Don’t be so shocked Sweetness. I’ll have you know since I spent ninety eight percent of my time at home at a kid and couldn’t eat most things, I took it upon myself to learn how to become competent enough in my culinary skills. I’m not top chef or anything but I can do a little something.” Laughing I take another bite enjoying how easy-going things are between us. It feels natural to be together with him, yet I know I’m not the only one who could feel the underlying tension between us.
